In 1988 he acquired his Ph.D. degree in Technology of Silicates and Refractories from the Institute of Silicate Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Thesis: Peculiarity of solubility, sol processing and growing of zeolites crystals in Na20 - Al203 - SiO2 - H2O system. The official opponents were D.Sc. Demjanets L.N. from Institute of Crystallography and D.Sc. Senderov E. E. from Institute of Geochemistry of the USSR Academy of Science.
1975 graduated from Leningrad State University with qualification of Geochemist-Crystallographer (including strong background in theory and practice of nucleation, crystal growth, in the X-ray and optical methods of controlling process and characterization). Undergraduate research under the title "Crystaloptical and X-ray methods of determination of cation ordering in the rhombic pyroxene structure"(the leaderships were Prof., D.Sc. Tatarski V.B. and D.Sc. Nikitina L.P.) was recognized best on competition of University.
1991 up to present time: Dr. Tarasov has been working as a scientific assistance in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of High Temperature Coatings (Head, Prof., D.Sc., Vladislav N. Filipovich). Dr. Tarasov is responsible for the application of the sol-gel technology to high temperature glass coatings and powders. His research involves polymerization of metalorganic, inorganic compounds in solutions to sols. Sols are used as penetrating liquids of glass forming coating for reducing porosity and increasing resistance of stones (lime, gypsum, concrete) and high temperature materials (Si-C, C-C and metals). He also worked out the method of cobalt sorption by zeolites in sewage of Concern "Norilsky Nickel" (Monchegorsk) and application of cobalt zeolites in glazes, enamels and thermo indicative paint. He successfully dealt with the furfuryl alcohol polymer concrete for anti corrosive protection of pipes. He wrote a papers about connection kinetic data of sol processing and heterogeneous equilibrium in gels (not yet published).
1987-1991 employed as a scientific assistance in the Industrial Scientific Research Laboratory (Durability of Building and Organosilicate Materials, Head Dr. Krivcov V.A.). Dr. Tarasov studied the sol-gel polymerization of mixed silicones in solutions by light scattering and X-ray methods and water-repelling result of their reactions with surface of silicates. He obtained the increase of durability of colored coatings of building facades in the House Building Company "Avtovo"(St.-Petersburg).
1983-1987 made as a senior engineer the new hydrothermal crystallizer and grew new single crystals of zeolites Z-21, F, Pl, HNe-1 from solutions for X-ray structure studies in the Laboratory of X-ray Structural Research (Head D.Sc. Smolin Yu.I.) at the Institute of Silicate Chemistry.
1979-1983 worked as a junior scientific assistant in the Laboratory of Hydrochemical Processes and Devices in Alumina Production at the Institute of Aluminum and Magnesium Industry (Head Lab. Dr. Davydov I.V.). Dr. Tarasov invented the method of pilot scale synthesis of zeolites A, X and ZSM-5 at the Industrial Association "Alumina" in Pikalevo.
1975-1979 investigated as a junior scientist the mechanism of sol-gel processing and crystallization of zeolites in solutions at the Laboratory of Silicate Adsorbents at the Institute of Silicate Chemistry (Head Lab. Prof., D.Sc., Zhdanov S.P.).
1972-1975 employed as a senior technician with crystal optical and X-ray methods at the Institute of Precambrian Geology and Geochronology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Head Lab. D.Sc., Nikitina L.P.).
Up to 1991 Dr. Tarasov worked as geochemist every 1-2 summer months in the environmental monitoring mapping expeditions in many regions of the former USSR with his department-friends from the Leningrad State University, Institute of Precambrian Geology, Pedagogical Institute (Geography Department).
